Description

This course provides candidates with the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out the dismantling and removal of trees using rigging systems. Candidates will learn to plan and implement rigging operations, assess load weights and anchor points, and apply appropriate techniques to safely and efficiently lower sections of timber and branches in a controlled manner. Emphasis is placed on hazard identification, risk assessment, communication, and minimising potential damage to property, infrastructure, and the surrounding environment.

This course is for candidates over 16 years old.

Due to the physical nature of this course, a minimum level of fitness is required, along with a good head for heights.

Aerial Tree Rigging (CS41) Training Course

Do I need previous Qualification or Experience?

Previous industry experience in tree work will be helpful.

This course requires the following prerequisite certificate of competences: Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting, Felling Small Trees up to 380mm, Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue and, Using a Chainsaw from Rope and Harness (formerly CS30, CS31, CS38 and CS39).

What will be covered in the course?

  • Identifying the information required for an effective risk assessment.

  • Identifying the potential hazards/risks involved with tree climbing and rescue.

  • Understanding legislation and industry guides relevant for working at height and carrying out work in trees.

  • Inspection of equipment used for working at height.

  • Carrying out a visual tree assessment.

  • Identify Personal Protective Equipment required for tree climbing.

  • How to calculate weights and forces found in rigging operations. 

  • Inspection of equipment used in aerial rigging.

  • Selecting rigging equipment to build a safe and efficient rigging system.

  • Configuring a safe rigging system on a pole.

What equipment will I need?

  • PPE needs to be in good order and meets the minimum standards. Helmet with chin strap, ear and eye protection (If you are unsure please contact us at info@practicalarb.co.uk).

  • Chainsaw boots.

  • Type C chainsaw trousers.

  • Clothing suitable for time of year.

Climbing equipment need to have an in date LOLER certificate or, if purchased with in a six-month period, receipts. LOLER certificate or receipts must cover the period of training and assessment. Climbing equipment must be in good order and meet minimum standards (If you are unsure, please contact us at info@practicalarb.co.uk).

 

Minimum equipment required:

  • Climbing harness

  • Two climbing ropes (minimum length 35m)

  • Work positioning system (side strop)

  • Two prussick loops

  • Four carabiners

  • Climbing spikes

  • Personal first aid kit

  • Rescue knife

  • Top handle chainsaw (recommended 12" guide bar) with tool strop

  • Maintenance and sharpening kit for chainsaw

  • Fuel and chain oil

Minimum rigging equipment required:

  • Rigging rope (minimum length 50m)

  • Pulley block

  • Redirect pulley or rigging ring

  • Selection of rope and/or tape slings for attaching (a selection of sizes is useful)

  • Floating bollard or fixed bollard rigging device (including any attachment straps)

  • Carabiners suitable for rigging (steel)
