Description

This CPD module accredited by City and Guilds/NPTC is designed for individuals looking to refresh or update their skills in felling medium trees over 380mm and up to 760mm. Covered in the course will be identifying hazards/risks and characteristics of a tree to safely and effectively carry out felling operations. Safe removal of hung up trees using a winch and processing of trees once felled.  Suited for individuals who are looking to ensure their skills and knowledge are up-to-date with industry best practise.

This course is for candidates over 16 years old.

Due to the physical nature of the course, a minimum level of fitness is required.

Do I need previous Qualification or Experience?

You must hold a certificate of competence in Felling and Processing Medium Trees over 380mm and up to 760mm (formerly CS32).

What will be covered in the course?

  • Setting up a safe working site.

  • Assess trees to be felled for risks and hazards.

  • Assess leaning trees and identify the correct felling techniques.

  • Assessing hung up trees and identifying the correct techniques and tools to remove them safely.

  • Inspection and safe configuration of a hand winch.

  • Using a hand winch to safely remove a hung up tree.

  • De-limbing and snedding techniques to safely and effectively process a felled tree.

  • Cross-cutting techniques to cut over sized timber accurately to length and stacking to ensure a safe working site.

What equipment will I need?

  • PPE that is in good order and meets the minimum standards. Chainsaw trousers, type A or C. Chainsaw boots. Chainsaw gloves. Helmet with eye and ear protection. (If you are unsure, please contact us at info@practicalarb.co.uk)

  • Clothing suitable for time of year.

  • Rear handle chainsaw with 15" guide bar.

  • Fuel and chain oil.

  • Maintenance and sharpening tools suitable for chainsaw.

  • Felling lever.

  • Suitable felling wedges for trees over 380mm up to 760mm.

  • Sledge hammer or similar for using with felling wedges.
