Description
This CPD module accredited by City and Guilds/NPTC is designed for individuals looking to refresh or update their skills in felling small trees up to 380mm. Covered in the course will be identifying hazards/risks and characteristics of a tree to safely and effectively carry out felling operations. Safe removal of hung up trees and processing of trees once felled. Suited for individuals who are looking to ensure their skills and knowledge are up-to-date with industry best practise.

Suitable for people working in Forestry, Arboriculture, Estate Management, Woodland, Horticulture, Agriculture, Local Authority.
This course is for candidates over 16 years old.
Due to the physical nature of the course, a minimum level of fitness is required.

Do I need previous Qualification or Experience?
You must hold a certificate of competence in Felling Small Trees up to 380mm.

What will be covered in the course?

Setting up a safe working site.

Assess trees to be felled for risks and hazards.

Assess leaning trees with a diameter up to 380mm and identify the correct felling techniques.

How to deal with a trapped chainsaw and trees which have sat back.

Techniques used to remove trees with diameters under 200mm.

Assessing hung up trees and identifying the correct techniques and tools to remove them safely..

De-limbing and snedding techniques to safely and effectively process a felled tree.

Preparing a chainsaw for use and starting from both hot and cold.

Cross-cutting timber accurately to length and stacking to ensure a safe working site.

What equipment will I need?

PPE that is in good order and meets the minimum standards. Chainsaw trousers, type A or C. Chainsaw boots. Chainsaw gloves. Helmet with eye and ear protection. (If you are unsure, please contact us at info@practicalarb.co.uk)
