Description
This course is ideal for those whose work takes them up in to the canopy of a tree. Candidates will learn how to inspect equipment used for climbing, how to access and move safely through the tree and, how to safely rescue a casualty from the canopy and of a pole. The Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue qualification is a prerequisite for other tree climbing qualifications.

Suitable for people working in Forestry, Arboriculture, Estate Management, Woodland, Horticulture, Agriculture, Local Authority, Ecology, Conservation.
This course is for candidates over 16 years old.
Due to the physical nature of this course, a minimum level of fitness is required, along with a good head for heights.

Do I need previous Qualification or Experience?
No previous qualification or experience is required for this course or the assessment. Previous experience of being at height can help.

What will be covered in the course?

Identifying the information required for an effective risk assessment.

Identifying the potential hazards/risks involved with tree climbing and rescue.

Understanding legislation and industry guides relevant for working at height in trees.

Inspection of equipment used for working at height.

Carrying out a visual tree assessment.

How to access the tree using recognised equipment and techniques.

Identify Personal Protective Equipment required for tree climbing.

How to move safely through the canopy of a tree, including how to limb walk safely.

Procedures on site should someone need to be rescued from a tree.

Safely rescuing a casualty from the canopy using a variety of equipment and techniques.

Safely rescuing a casualty from a pole using climbing spikes.

How to correctly store climbing equipment after use.

What equipment will I need?

PPE needs to be in good order and meets the minimum standards. Helmet with chin strap (If you are unsure, please contact us at info@practicalarb.co.uk)

Clothing suitable for time of year.

Footwear with ankle support.
Climbing equipment need to have an in date LOLER certificate or, if purchased with in a six-month period, receipts. LOLER certificate or receipts must cover the period of training and assessment.
